Have you ever needed something in large quantity? In those situations, it’s great to have a membership to one of those “big box ” stores like BJ’s or Costco. Don’t have a membership? Well, if you’re not buying in bulk regularly, then it may not be worth it. However, there are ways to minimize the cost while still getting the benefits.
Split a membership. These stores usually have a limit on how many people can be included on one account. One way around this is to just pay for a portion of your friend’s membership. You can join them on shopping trips, pick out your items, and have the friend check out with the account. You can pay him or her back afterwards.
Call in a favor. Maybe you just need a one-time purchase from the store to stock up for a party. Instead of paying towards a membership, just ask a friend with a membership to take you shopping and do the same as above. Maybe kick in some gas money or treat them to lunch.
Memberships to a “big box” store can be very beneficial if you’re someone who frequently shops for large quantities. For everyone else, ask your friends and see if one of these strategies is an option.
