Today’s tip: Replace Incandescent Light Bulbs with CFLs
They may cost a bit more up front, but CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs will last longer and use less energy than a standard incandescent bulb.
- Ecosmart CFL soft white (60 watt) 4-pack: $6.97
- Philips Duramax Incandescent soft white (60 watt) 4-pack: $2.17
Incandescents are cheaper, but you’ll have to buy roughly 10 times the amount of bulbs to equal the life of a CFL. That amounts to $21.70 using the above example.
CFLs also use about 25% of the energy that a regular bulbs use over their lifetime. So you’ll save money on your electricity bill as well.
Also think about the convenience of not having to change your light bulbs so often. Again, one CFL will last as long as 8 to 15 regular bulbs!
