Last week you may have read our review of a particular episode of TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates (find it here). That clip focused on an extreme way to save money on water. While I don’t think I can get on board with their methods, I can certainly understand their goal. Save money, reduce waste. These are good things, but there are less extreme ways to be environmentally conscious and save money on water.
Here are some ways to reuse and recycle water:
- Carry a reusable bottle or canteen and fill it up at free water fountain and sinks. Save money by not buying bottled water, and reduce waste when you don’t have to throw away the plastic.
- If you have leftover water in your bottle, don’t dump it. Bring it home for your pet’s water bowl or use it to water your plants. Also, whatever the pets don’t drink, feed to the plants.
- Have ice leftover from your beverage? Again, put it in your pet’s water bowl or a plant.
- If you have a lawn or garden, collect rainwater to water your plants. Here is an example of a rainwater collecting barrel. You just place it under your gutter downspouts and attach a hose when you’re ready to water the garden.
These are just a few ways you can reduce waste and save money on water. If you have any ideas or techniques to share, please add them to the comments below.
