By purchasing your own food and cooking it at home instead of ordering takeout or going to a restaurant, you can save thousands of dollars in debt relief a year while also getting healthier. However, part of the process is also shopping smart when at the grocery store. Grocery stores are gunning for profits just as much as restaurants. in order to really save money to help pay off your credit card debts, you need to attack grocery shopping with a plan.
Finding Debt Relief at the Grocery Store
When you get to the grocery store, the best thing you can do is to know exactly what you want to buy. If you create a list before you go, you are less likely to spend money on things you don’t need. Besides obvious staples, I try to only buy what is on sale or marked down using a flyer, the website or other coupon apps. Planning ahead of time also lets me choose the right grocery store by comparing the flyers and making sure I’m getting the most products for my money.
Meal Planning and Debt Relief
Meal planning may sound time consuming, but it really only takes a few minutes out of your day before you go to the store. It’s also another way to get some debt relief from your grocery shopping. Think about the week ahead and what meals you need to cook at home. Go through the flyer and circle items of interest. Then, you can apply those sale items to whatever meals you need.
For example, if deli meat is on sale, you can purchase it for easy lunches through the week. That way, I always remember what I purchased and what I have planned. Writing down each meal keeps me from straying from the debt relief plan and giving in to takeout or restaurant food.
