Tuesday Tip: Try the Store Brand

When it comes to food, a lot of people are very loyal to particular brands. Some consumers would never think about trying the store brand. However, it could lead to extra savings and a lower grocery shopping bill. That money can go towards your debt management efforts.

Follow ACCC's store brand advice to save money.

Follow ACCC’s store brand advice to save money.

Advantage of Trying the Store Brand

The store brand version of popular cereals, juices, crackers, cheese, or any other product might be just what you are looking for in taste and quality without knowing it. Some consumers go on the mentality that if you like something, why change?

Well, potentially saving money is one reason. Discovering that you like something else is another. So, why not take a chance and at least TRY some store brand items to see if they can meet, or even exceed your expectations? These store brand products can help you stay on budget when you shop.

Savings with Store Brand Products

Supermarket brands typically cost 15 – 30% less than national brands, and some products are even 50 % less expensive. What’s more is that you might even find that you like the store brand better. If that’s the case, you’re setting yourself to save a lot of money on your grocery bill.

Imagine, for example, if you typically purchase a national brand of cereal for $3.68 per box, once a week. Say you switched to the store brand version that costs $2.58. You just saved $50 a year, and that’s only one different item.

Try some store brands on your next shopping trip and find out what you like. It will cost you less money to try them, and you might actually like what you get.
