See a beautiful day in your forecast and want to hit the beach? If you’re hoping to enjoy it on a weekend, you better plan ahead. The weekend is a time where we as consumers are tempted to spend money when out and about. Here are some tips to make sure you get there and have fun without getting into any credit problems.
Go to a less popular beach. You might have to drive a little further, but often times the parking is cheaper and the area is far less crowded. Some families go as far as renting their lawns out for parking to make an extra buck.
Arrive early. Not only do the lots as well as space on the sand fill up, but sometimes the parking will increase as the day goes on. Check for early bird specials to avoid any of these issues.
Pack your own food. This is a no-brainer. Restaurants on the water are notorious for outrageous pricing. Food trucks and vendors will also set you back. So if you do want to treat the kids, try and hold out for the ice cream truck where items are significantly cheaper than going out to lunch. Packing a picnic lunch will also keep things healthy. Don’t forget the water! The sun can be hot and you’ll want to keep yourself hydrated.
Don’t forget to pack the toys. Be sure to pack towels and blankets. Renting a boat, jet skis or surfing lessons are pricey so pick up a boogie board at a bargain store on the way along with some Frisbees, a radio, beach chairs, pails and shovels to get the most out of your beach day.
Last but not least, sunscreen. This cannot be stressed enough. Peak hours are from 10am-2pm so in addition to some shades and maybe a hat, make sure you lather yourself up and help a friend to avoid a sun burn. Sun screen like other beach items may be sold at local shops on the water but again, you can always find them cheaper ahead of time to save some money.
Avoid drowning in debt, or in the water for that matter with these suggestions and you’ll be sure to have a day to remember.
