Affordable Winter Vacation Ideas

Winter can be quite a drag to the sunshine lovers and a blessing to the snow bunnies. Finding an affordable winter vacation may seem challenging no matter where you want to go. However, with a little creativity, there are several ways to vacation this winter on any budget.

How to Have an Affordable Winter Vacation

Have fun - and avoid debt - with an affordable winter vacation.

0$ Winter Staycation

If you want to go on a winter vacation but are focused on debt management, you’re in luck. A winter staycation might be just what you need. Here are a few ways that you can turn your home into a lovely winter getaway to have the most affordable winter vacation.

  • Decorate with string lights, candles or anything else that may transform some of the rooms of your house. If you are really motivated, move furniture and artwork around.
  • Stock up on some different pantry items. Having some different snacks and meal ideas will help to break up the usual routine. Remember to stay within your grocery budget to keep this a 0$ vacation.
  • Unplug the TV or at least the cable. Read that mystery novel that has collected dust. Only watch movies or maybe even binge watch Netflix. Whatever your go-to is, switch it up to make this time off feel special and different.

$250-500 Winter Vacation

If you have a few hundred dollars for an affordable winter vacation, consider taking a short road trip to your nearest metropolitan area. Whether it’s NYC, Boston, Houston or San Francisco, there is plenty to do on a regional basis.

This might be a shorter vacation than staying at home, perhaps just a few days. Your budget will go farther if you have any friends or relatives to stay with. Check online sites for deals as well to save money for eliminating debt.

As for attractions, look for packages or bundles that the city may offer. Museums, zoos, aquariums can sometimes be visited for less by buying a package. Just remember not to overspend just because it’s a good deal.

$1,000 + Winter Trips

Winter can be very motivating to save money for times of need. A budget of over $1,000 can get you beyond a regional trip. Hop on a plane to warmer weather or perhaps even snowier weather.

Canada is another great option for a bigger yet still affordable winter vacation. Between Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto there is so much to choose from. This kind of trip is for people who are fond of cold, wintry weather who just want a change of scenery.

Vacations can easily go over budget. Stay focused and manage your funds wisely to avoid unnecessary consumer debt. That way, you can relax on vacation without coming home to any more debt.

If you’re struggling to pay off debt, ACCC can help. Schedule a free credit counseling session with us today.
